STATEMENT OF FAITH

We, at Schaumburg Japanese Christian Church, together affirm the following beliefs.

Scripture

2.神 God

All sixty-six books of Scripture, written by divine inspiration, are the inerrant Word of God in the original writings. Scripture reveals God’s perfect will for humanity and is the sole ultimate authority for Christian faith and practice.

God is the one living and eternal God, the Creator of all things in heaven and on earth. God is one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God the Father, perfect in love, power, knowledge, and wisdom, graciously rules and guides the world according to His providence.

Christ

The Holy Spirit

At the time appointed by God, Jesus Christ will return to earth in visible form. The dead will be raised, and Christ will judge all people with righteousness. The unrighteous will receive eternal punishment, while all who have been justified will live eternally with the Lord in glorified bodies.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine in nature. He reveals God’s truth to humanity and glorifies Christ; He regenerates the sinner and dwells within believers. The Holy Spirit works within believers to strengthen, guide, sanctify, and comfort them, imparting various spiritual gifts for the purpose of building up the church. He bears witness within believers that they are children of God and preserves each one until the day of their final redemption.

5.人間 Humanity

Jesus Christ is the fully divine and eternal Son, who came to earth and became incarnate as a human being. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary and, throughout His life, committed no sin, perfectly revealing and accomplishing the will of God. Through His substitutionary death and resurrection, He provided the only way for humanity to receive salvation.

6.救い Salvation

Salvation is given by grace to all who believe in and receive Jesus, who died and rose again for us, as their Lord and Savior, through the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. By faith in Christ, believers are forgiven of their sins and declared righteous before God. Until the day of their final redemption, believers continue to be transformed into the likeness of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit, who dwells within them.

7.教会 The Church

The church is the body of Christ, consisting of those who are justified by the grace of God through faith. Believers regularly gather for worship, the teaching of God’s Word, prayer, fellowship, and service, encouraging one another as they fulfill the mission of loving God, loving their neighbors, and bearing witness to the gospel. The church also administers the two ordinances instituted by the Lord Himself: baptism, which symbolizes our participation in the death and resurrection of Jesus and our new life in Him, and the Lord’s Supper, in which we remember Jesus’ death on the cross.

8.終末 The Last Things

God created human beings, male and female, in His own image. As a result of the first human beings’ rebellion against God, humanity fell into sin, and therefore all people have become sinners by nature. The relationship between humanity and God was broken, so that no one can be saved from the penalty and power of sin except through the work of Christ.
